From 22 July 2025, Irish citizens living in UK will be able to apply for British citizenship under a new easier, cheaper route!

Irish nationals residing in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man will have a new, simpler, and less expensive way to apply for British citizenship starting on July 22, 2025, when the British Nationality (Irish Citizens) Act 2024 goes into effect.

At £723 for adults and £607 for children, the registration price will be 50% less than for people of other nations. Children in the care of the local government will be processed at no cost, as will those who can prove they are unable to pay the application price.

ELIGIBILITY:

An Irish citizen will be able to register as a British citizen where:

• They can show they have been living in the UK for the previous 5 years.


• During the 5 years, they must not have been absent for a total of more than 450 days.


• During the final year, they must not have been absent for more than 90 days


• During the 5 years, they must not have been in breach of the immigration laws.


• They are of good character.
